Going Green

This window overhang blocks out hot summer sun from the kitchen and dining area.

Just what does 'going green' mean? For us at Hundt Construction, it comes down to being more efficient. And being more efficient usualy results in saving money.

Most houses today are built with measures that greatly reduce the external heat gain of your home compared with homes of past generations. However, the number one sources of external heat gain (and more load on your air conditioner) are glass windows and doors. By shading large glass back doors and windows that receive considerable sunlight, you are making a sizable effort in reducing your summer electric bill. And Hundt Construction Patio Covers, Window Overhangs and Attached Arbors effectively block overhead summer sun, while letting in more lower angle winter sunlight, when it is a welcome guest on cold days. A trellis with plants growing on it in front of a south or west facing wall is also a way to instantly reduce the amount of heat your house is absorbing.

This pergola, along with the plants hanging from it, keep the back half of this house cooler in the summer.

As you can see in this second photo, this backyard area went from being a hot, sun-exposed area to an area that can be enjoyed year round because of the shade and lower temperatures provided by a Hundt Construction arbor.
